Bent PCI bracket, can not install (XFX 6870)

Thread Starter
I've been putting all my components together and today I attempted to install my graphics card into a Lian-Li tray. I bought the graphics card new from Newegg and its a XFX 6870 dual fan black edition. I have never attempted to install it because I have been waiting for the rest of my parts to arrive.

I was having difficulty getting the graphics card and tray screw holes to align, so I took a closer look at the card. I noticed the square cut outs below the screw holes were bent inwards, as if someone attempted to push a PCI bracket screw through it. This caused the card to scratch up my tray

The PCI bracket itself is also not straight and I believe this to be the reason for my difficulties. It is warped around the HDMI port causing the DVI end to be lower than the other. Because one end is higher, the 6870's screw holes are 1-2mm away from the tray's holes.

Any input or ideas? I haven't tried another case/mobo etc as this is my first build. Should I contact XFX about this? Hopefully their CS will be helpful. Pics tomorrow

Thanks!

This is a case where we really need a picture to know what is going on.

Can't remember the last time I have a graphics card that lined up perfectly with the holes. Just grab the back on the case and push the card back by the bracket to line it up and be ready with a screw.

If it's that bad you can't force it, get a replacement.

if the bracket is bent like the GTX460 that my friend bought from some guy on craigslist then do what I did...

remove it and place on nice level surface and proceed to gently beat the living crap out of it with a hammer while applying heat to the plate to get it to ply more easily..then sand..primer and glossy black paint coat and vuuuallaa
