Best DDR3 RAM for P45 board?

Thread Starter
Hey,

Just wondering, what would be the best DDR3 RAM to get for a Gigabyte EP45T-USB3P motherboard? I've currently got some OCZ sticks in there which are, quite frankly, awful. I can't run two sticks together at the stock 1600MHz speed, but individually they work fine.

So, I'm looking to order from NewEgg (a friend in the USA will take shipping for it), and I'm looking for an
- 8GB kit,
- 1600MHz with overclocking headroom (because I'm going to shoot for 500FSB)
- Works well on a P45 chipset with a Q9650.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

You should be able to hit 500fsb no problem. I've had mine up to 588fsb. I was using OCZ 1333mhz sticks, but that's all I had for it and haven't tried anything else.

With the exception of the low profile models, they all say this:
Quote:
OPTIMIZED FOR COMPATIBILITY WITH THE 2ND GENERATION (SANDY BRIDGE) INTEL CORE PROCESSOR FAMILY
Designed specifically for the latest CPUs, Corsair Vengeance modules run at 1.5V for maximum compatibility with the 2nd generation (Sandy Bridge) Intel Core processor family.
That's near enough what the OCZ RAM I have said, except it was for the first generation of i3/5/7 chips. I'm a little worried that it's going to have the same problem.

Nice work. Dual cores on the P45 chipset can get close to 600FSB, sometimes higher. Quad cores are tough to stabilise over 500FSB, but it's good to know that I should be able to push it to limit.

Thank you.

The Sniper series is too expensive to justify, and I'm not too keen on the aesthetics of the Team Xtrem Dark when put next to the Ripjaws X Series.
From that Ripjaws link, I'm now looking at this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231428
Almost the same thing, but has CAS Latency of 9 compared to 8 on the ones you linked to, but they're red so will fit in with my black and red theme better than the blue (even though my motherboard is blue).

But then, the Corsair Vengeance matches the blue Ripjaws you linked to spec for spec, and are red for an additional $5.

That said, I'm still concerned about the voltage. All of these kits are 1.5v, whereas (according to this thread) LGA775 era boards generally need more voltage.
xxbassplayerxx says they should be good up to around 2.0v, so I'm not sure... will these kits handle that sort of voltage?
