old GPU question HD38XX-x2

Ok i kinda have a thing for the HD 3 series x2 cards i really like them

I had a 3870x2 that got shorted and now wont out put to a display still posts fine but its no-longer getting detected by mobo

The card will P.O.S.T.fine as the lights on the back of it show that the system boots to windows as i can see that using the IGP with the card installed its not getting detected i replaced it with a 4850 1GB the old card is sat in a box ATM

Im looking to get another 38XX-x2 series card

Were could i get another 3870x2 1GB or a 3850x2 1GB as that is only slightly slower than the 3870x2

as i got better performance with the 3870x2 compared with my 4850 1GB

what would a good price be for a 3850x2 1GB or a 3870x2 1GB and also dose any one think i could trade my 4850 1GB for one of those cards

im not to bothered about brand for the cards i believe only asus made the 3850x2 it also had a better cooler but as for the 3870x2 brand wise IDK

thanks for comments i will check back regularly

Well.. It puzzles me why you would want a GPU that old
You'll find them second hand only, e-bay.

But 4850x2 should be about the same price, and performs 2x faster... And looks about the same.. Consider it. You have a great CPU which will be bottlenecked by the 3850x2, but 4850x2 would feel perfectly comfortable in your sys IMO

EDIT: Here's a comparisson showing 4870 being exaclty twice faster than 3870. Scales the same in dual GPU

EDIT2: And here it shows that they look identical as well

i think i just like the thought of running hardware that no one else ie really using i will look for a 4850x2 and try to get a 2GB version

im just not sure what it is with the old 3 series x2 cards just there kind of a underdog know one expects them to perform like they do because of there age also my mobo only has 1 PCI-E x16 slot so the x2 cards are my only option for crossfire without using 2 physical cards

I know what you mean. Nobody expected my old 4870 to play Crysis like it did The thing is - most people try to justify paying loads of cash for their monster HD 6xxx's or GTX 4xx's, but old generation cards still kick ass (well, the HD3xxx not so much )

I have two 3870x2's. I got one from OCN For Sale sections and the other from mwave's reverse auction. I paid about $65 each a few months ago.

I would think Ebay or Overclock.net is probably your best bet for a good deal on them.

Oddly I have a thing for dual GPU cards as well- I picked up two 4870x2's when tigerdirect had the refurbs for $99, and now I snagged a GTX295 from EVGA's recent B-Stock sale which should be arriving soon.
