You shouldn't need it unless you are building some giant case. A regular sized mid or full tower will be fine with regular 1/4".

Lexan is a trademarked name for polycarbonate, while plexiglass is a trademarked name for acrylic.

To be honest, acrylic and polycarbonate are actually very similar; only difference is that the acrylic is a bit stiffer.

And don't forget to check with your local sign manufacturers, they can typically sell you partial or full sheets at their cost (less than what Lowe's, Delvie's, etc charge) and you typically don't have to deal with expensive shipping costs since they can special order items to arrive with their regular deliveries.
