Power supply just died. Suggestions?

Thread Starter
I have an A-Power 800W power supply, but it unfortunately died yesterday. I have found two suitable replacements that put out less watts.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...scrollFullInfo

Both have free 2-day shipping and, with the rebate, one will be $10 more expensive. The Antec is cheaper with 50W more. Should I get that one? Or the one that's silent and modular?

I'd grab the cooler master, if i had to pick between those two

but why get less W?

You could get into trouble when upgrading or going crossfire etc?

Id say cooler master between those 2, but I would vote for a good, modular Corsair if you can afford it. PSUs are the backbone to your system and can be used for future rigs also.

Thanks for the quick reply nioxic. I don't think I'll be going crossfire anytime soon and a friend of mine, who has more powerful hardware than I have, only pulls around 400W. Should I get a higher wattage psu?

That antec PSU is not the prettiest but its a good one (I really don't trust cooler master for PSUs but the silent pro is not bad still the performance is... meh )you can go with this one also

Out of those two I'd choose the Antec. The Silent Pro is decent enough but take a look at the label closely and you see that it can only do 480W on its 12V rail, so in fact it's a 500W PSU not a 600W at all.

Seasonic S12, modular and still cheaper than the Coolermaster. Plenty of 12V there for your quad-core CPU and the Radeon HD6870.

Don't go from one crappy psu to another, get yourself a quality unit, like this corsair 650tx v2. This psu I linked is a great value and has enough power for all your components even enough for crossfire in the future for your 6870.
