CPU cooler for i5-2500k

Thread Starter
Hi, friends. I recently bought core i5-2500k and have some problems with the stock cooler 73-77 degrees with stock clocks.
So i wanna buy some CPU cooler wich can provide me 4.3-4.5 clock form my processor and below 75 degrees.

So which of these is the best for me

1. Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 PRO Rev.2

2. Scythe CPU Cooler KATANA 3

3. Akasa CPU Cooler NERO AK-967

4. Arctic Cooling Freezer 13

This are in my budget range and in my near shop. Please refer only to this coolers.

P.S Is all of them good for LGA1155 ? My old AC freezer 7 PRO for LGA 775 doesn't fit in the new motherboard So i just wana be sure that the cooler will fit the LGA1155 on my gigabyte z68 mobo.

Thanks in advance.

I think you can get those temps pretty much with any cooler from the major brands in the market right now. There might be some exceptions.

Do you have a small case? If you have some space maybe you should look at the Hyper 212 +, its a great cooler for the price.

My case is normal one and its with open left panel so the height will not be a problem BUT, with my stock i5 cooler there is only like a 1-2cm between the end of the cooler and the first DDR3 slot, so I am not so sure will I be able to fit some of the coolers above ?

EDIT: I looked some reviews and saw that only the height matters, I mean, it seems that the weight is the problem, but my case is opened so this will be no problem...

I have a real problem guys. My CPU is going very hot with the stock intel i5 cooler.
I am in 39-43 range at idle and 80+ at load with stock clocks. What could possibly be the problem? Should I replace the thermal compund with a single dot in the center because right now I have a paste over the whole chip?

I ordered Hyper 12+ and I hope this will solve my problem.
But I will get the cooler within 2+ days, so is it safe for me to play some games this 2-3 days with temps higher than 80C on my i5-2500k?

playing games will not utilize 100% cpu anyway, it's gonna be safe. Monitor your temps when playing a game with realTemp. Open RealTemp just before you start to play. Play for a while, then close the game and look at the max temp your cpu went since you launched realtemp. it will tell you the time also.

If your max temp says 80c then there is a problem, you should wait for new cooler

I've noticed there isnt any noise increase in any RPM of the fan, I think the stock cooler works at its minimal RPM because its almost unnoisable. I tryed to chage that in the BIOS but still no noise increase, I think that could be the possible problem.

An one othet thing, there is a little "tiny" almost unnoticable scrach of the top of the CPU, maybe its a result of my mobo "hard" closing the metal lid. I think that tiny scratch cannot lead to overheating.

I think I solve my problem for now.
I noticed that when my CPU is on FULL LOAD, the vcore goes to 1.237 and above and my temps hitting above 80C with 29C room temp and stock cooler.
I lower the vcore to 1.044, sopped the TURBO and now I am in mid 73C and below.
