First Folding Rig

Thread Starter
So I've come to realize that I have enough parts left over from builds over the years that I think I can make a half decent folding rig. *edit* This rig will be 24/7*

My build signature at the bottom has the current parts that I'm looking at using. Was curious if anyone had an comments or concerns or maybe some heads up with the hardware that I'm looking to use.

I'll most likely be running Vista 64 Ult on the machine.

I also have a Phenom 940 but Id need to get a board for it. Which I would be willing to do if it would out preform the 6000+ by a decent amount.

Thanks for your time in advance.

I would use the 940, it's going to double the output of the 6000+. Especially if you plan to OC it a bit.

Edit: I could be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure that is correct information.

The 940 would more than likely put out way more PPD than the 6000, so if you can grab a cheap board, it would more than be worth it.

Also Welcome to the Folding Community

it honestly sounds like you want a GPU farm. if you're going to be using the 2600K for bigadv, then I recommend getting a cheap motherboard with 4pci-e slots and a simple dual core proc and slap those 4 gpu's in there. you're ppd will increase a ton on your 2600k and those 460's will pump out a healthy amount of ppd all on their own.

Wrong thread? Or you just want me to buy a 2600k and some 460's. hehe

Thanks for the advice 1055AMD and Dark. I may just build 2 - 24/7 rigs I have another 650w and a 8800gts sitting here also. I guess picking up another addiction isn't so bad since it's also going to be helping people.
