itunes sound quality

Thread Starter
generally i use my iphone in the dock connector straight to my g51 speakers to listen to music as listening to the same songs in itunes sounds completely different. in itunes it sounds horribly muffled and extremely low quality. most of my media is vbr mp3s or 192k min and in itunes it sounds like 80k or below. eq is on in both itunes and iphone but both are set to flat. id like to listen to music in itunes as the collection is far more broad than i can fit on my phone but i just cant stand the horrible quality. i updated to the latest audio drivers and im using the onboard sound. sound is fine in other apps and movies etc just itunes sucks. any tips suggestions?

The songs themselves should be the same quality. The only thing that makes sense to me is that your onboard audio processor isn't up to par with your iPhone's. You say that the same songs song better in other applications (WMP, Foobar, WinAmp, Foobar etc.)? If that's the case, it's beyond me. I don't use iTunes, but I have a hard time imagining that it actually lowers the sound quality in its player.

I don't know if it's your onboard audio or not, but I had the very similar case. Before I bought a sound card, I would always notice music sounded muffled/bloated on my computer (Realtek 6XX series audio chip) compared to my ipod touch 2g. In fact, that's what drove me into researching dedicated sound cards. Anyway, I'm suspecting that's case.

You could also try a different player such as http://www.foobar2000.org/ and see if it sounds any different to itunes.

Try foobar and see if the songs still don't sound right to you. I noticed a huge difference between iTunes and foobar playing the same files.
