5850 Idling at 47C?

Thread Starter
Thanks for looking. My 5850 has been getting up to 85C in games(used to be in the low 70's). I just happened to look at temps starting out after i first started the PC and its idling at 47C. its only 21C in my house right now. Should i take off the heatsink and re-apply some new tim? its rocking stock TIM from about 12+ months of use.

Thats a high idle, my sound card is right under my HD5850, with maybe a CM of space in between. And at 25% fan it idles at 40C

How is the Airflow in the case? (I'm assuming air cooled)

Have you blown out the vents? Do you have a fan profile set?
That is pretty high. I know at 70% fan speed that mine wouldn't go past 65c.

Well, the ambient temperature in your house is going to be different from the ambient inside your case, which is what is directly affecting your overall temps of your cpu/gpu/hdd etc. Do you have HWMonitor installed? And if so, can you post all of your temps for us. Could be that you just have some dust blocking your GPU fan or something. Could also be what you mentioned about your TIM on the GPU, but depending on how long you've had it, this isn't likely.

EDIT: Also, is your GPU overclocked?

Just looked in your sig and saw you have it OCd and you have a GTX 275 for physx.

^ THIS ^ as well. I'd set at least a couple of fan profiles with shortcut keys (like one for browsing and one for gaming).

CPU is liquid cooled with a 240mm rasa kit. Idles at 27C but its overclocked to 4.9. Case is a HAF 932 with side panel off. The card is stock with stock 20% fan speed at idle. Have had it at the stock fan setup since i bought it and ive seen idle temps as low as 25C when i have my AC going full blast(saw my cpu temp hit 19C that day lol)

Another question; is your GTX 275 below your HD 5850? If so, that could possibly be another reason why your temps are higher now.

EDIT: GDit lol, looking at the wrong post. Sorry OP.
