Intel HD3000 vs AMD HD 6480G

Thread Starter
w/c is better?

The HD 3000 is paired with a B940 Pentium (Sandy Bridge) and the AMD 6480G is paired up with the A4 3300M..

W/c is better? Is one significantly better than the other?

How so?

I'd love more inputs please smile.gif

I believe it has been said the AMD has a better GPU, but the CPU isn't as good.

Honestly they both will get the job done in terms of doing everything EXCEPT gaming. I would say both CPUs are about matched. The HD 3000 is the much older onboard chipset, so I would go with the newer one.

The HD3000 is the recent on-die IGP found on higher-end Sandy Bridge CPUs. You might be thinking of the GMA X3000.

I am also interested in hearing about this since there doesn't seem to be much info out there on these yet from my searches so far. I've been looking for a low cost laptop that I could still use for a little casual gaming when I'm out and about.

thanks!

and yes.. we are talking about the new on-die igp intel hd 3000 not the old GMA

For reference, the laptops I'm looking at are the asus A53E-XN1(intel) and hp g4-1117dx(amd)

I also had the same question as tuber and found this forum by googling it. I need help choosing a laptop for everyday use. I was thinking about some gaming but i dont think i have to. im not a serious pc gamer. i play on my ps3. Anyway i was thinking between these 2 laptops: HP ProBook 4530s XU015UT with i3 - 2310 cpu and intel hd 3000
or HP - Pavilion Laptop with AMD A-Series dual-core A4-3300M accelerated processor and AMD Radeon HD 6480G.
Or also any other laptop no more than $550.

Also what is the difference between intel hd 3000 and mobile intel hd.

So, A4 3300m's better? xD

Anyway, some other might be interesting stuff:

Intel HD 3000 should be the same graphics as the sandy bridge Core i3, i5, and i7

It looks like this laptop may have the HD1000 (not HD3000):

Can't find anything on "HD1000", but here's the info on the B940:

In your link, I think dude got his numers mixed up. The mobile i3 has a hd 3000, not 2000. I believe the pentium is a stripped down HD 2000 with alot of multi media features disabled. If you look at the graphics section of the ark.intel.com link you have above, you'll see a lot of multi media acceleration features are not supported in the Pentium while they are supported in the i3 and above.

Alos note that Sandy Bridge graphics now have access to the CPU's L3 cache. With 33% less L3 cache, I assume the HD 2000 version in the Pentium will be slower than a regular HD 2000 at the same clock speed.

Any ideas?
