if you want powerful CPU that excel at gaming, 2nd generation Intel Core CPUs are the best in class. I personally recommend the Core i5 2500K.
HD 6950 1GB or GTX 560 Ti 1GB will suffice for most games maxed out at 1080p. go for SLI or CFX later on as an upgrade route.

things have changed allot in since 412 days ago when I did my last build. Sorry for my ignorance all, hope I didn't upset you too bad. I just went off of the judgment of how much apple charges per intel core. ridiculous. sorry if I'm wrong about that too

So correct. I picked up a i5 2500k almost 2 weeks ago. This thing flies even at stock. Great cpu.
