I've had good luck with this one...

...if you are looking for a wireless unit. I personally prefer a separate modem and router rather than an all-in-one.

It would sit behind your modem. What type of service do you have and what model modem?

for a cox communications, the motorolla surfboard cannot be beaten. Modem though besides reliability doesnt do much else as its controlled by cox.

As for the router, for wireless, N specifically look for dual band 2.4/5ghz, and also full 300 speeds, this generally means it'll have multiple antennas, 2+, otherwise the wireless n speeds will actually only be limited to 150.

as for brands, high end belkins ive been having alot of luck with, buddys dlink is crap, father in laws wireless n linksys blows, even with dd-wrt, netgear, ive heardgood things about, if you buy a high end.

Have you tried to contact Cox to inquire about a new modem? Depending on how your account was originally set up, you are either paying a few dollars a month to lease the modem, or you were charged up front for it. If it's the former, I would call them and ask for a replacement.

At my work, we have 8 locations using cable broadband, only 1 of which is with Cox. At all 8 locations we are using the Motorola Surfboard modem/router, of different models. They are very easy to work with, and I haven't had one go down in 3 years of service. The USB and ethernet ports are already bridged.

If you can get a new modem, then you can hook a good wireless router behind it and set up your new network. All the configuring you will have to do to set up your network is through the router.

Hope this helps,

Rich

Edit: Dang I type slow...

I'm confused as to exactly what equipment you have and how it's set up. If you have a Motorola SB already, you don't need another modem.

It should go something like this:

Coaxial cable from wall > Motorola SB modem > router > computer

When you say you have the phone going through the SB, you mean you use a VoIP?
