I get no blue screens, fold fine, play games fine, but LinX gets an error during second and third runs. I'm really trying to refrain from raising Vcore if I don't have to.

You likely need to raise vcore, many 970s start to need quite a bit of it around 4.2GHz.

What sort of vcore are you getting under load? My 970, which seems to be pretty middle of the pack needs 1.34v load to remain fully stable at 4.21GHz.

Also, increasing uncore frequency can buy a decent bit of performance. Many multi-threaded and memory intensive apps will be very limited by a low uncore clock.

Have you tried other stress tests to help pin down the source of the issue? I'd try Prime95 Small FFTs.

You were right, before in LinX I was only reaching 68 gflops and after raising the uncore 2x+1 I'm getting 77.59. I had to raise the QPI voltage to 1.35 since I was getting 124 BSOD's after changing the uncore. I haven't increased my vcore yet. Under load it seems I'm at 1.328V-1.33V. I'm thinking my issues are with the IMC if that makes any sense.

edit: Just passed 5 runs of LinX.

Unless you have a need for HT you can turn that off. Unless you have programs that will actually run on HT cores you do not need it on. HT can cause OC instability. There are other things you have enabled and/or disabled that I have disabled and/or enabled. So 3400MHz on the uncore now? I would not expect such a high uncore, for a Gulftown to help stability, but given the behavior you've experienced, maybe your previous value for it, or for qpi/vtt was too low.

3.4GHz on uncore is nearing the limit of what most Gulftowns are capable of on air. These chips don't need 2x DDR speed on the uncore, only 1.5x, which is why it was likely defaulting to 2.4GHz.

If you run into any more issues, I'd try dropping down to 3GHz even on the uncore and using about 1.3v qpi/vtt. That should let you rule out an IMC or L3 cache problem.

Running an i7 970 without HT is like using four axle truck to pick up groceries. Almost anything that would benefit from having more than four cores is going to benefit from HT as well.

In general, if you do any significant multi-tasking or use heavily threaded apps, it's much better to lose 100-200MHz of OC than it is to give up HT.
