4xx series gpu's are awful in every way possible except performance, and the 570 is equal to the 480. Get the 570, no question. smile.gif

You guys make it sound like there is a world of difference between GF100 and GF110.

The fact of the matter is once you disable throttling the power draw of the 580 is almost exactly the same as the 480. The 580 is of course a few percent faster, but its not a night and day difference, not at all.

The big difference is the improvment in the reference cooler, which you can see here when the reference 480 cooler is placed on an unlocked 580:

The difference between GF100 and GF110 is there, and it is a nice difference, however it isn't a huge difference in the least.

eVga = Lifetime Warranty... On a community known as Overclock.net I think that is highly important.

Buy a used 480. They go for 220ish (with a good cooler) and you are golden. If you overclock the 480 wins out (in games that need a lot of video ram like BF3 and crysis dx11).

How so ? I play Crysis 2 with the same settings and even though it uses all my Vram I don't see any slowdowns.

When the video card runs out of memory it swaps with your ram modules and performance decreases to a point where it becomes unplayable. I definitely didn't experience that in Crysis 2 until now.

I think GTX 480 is a better GPU if you put it on water but otherwise there's really no reason to buy it over the 570.

LOL, after 3 years shipping will prolly cost you more than the card itself.

does the evga classified have a reference pcb? or atleast more power phases?

if yes, then i'd take the 570 over the 480, if not then it's a crapshoot.

I'd say they're tied... as long as you don't disable the power limiter, and you aren't unlucky by receiving a bad card, then you should be fine as long as you don't go over 1.1v which is the max unless you edit the bios.

a 570 is also much cooler with a stock/air hsf... here are mine in metro

plus even on water... i haven't seen 480s clock that high.. 570s can usually get to 900-975MHz on air

EDIT: it does have a 6+1 power phase design... over the stock 4 phase design... i'd take the 570!

You can also find better, aftermarket versions of the 480, just like the 570. For example the Gigabyte SOC series actually uses less power and overclocks better.

These guys reached 970MHz ON AIR:

http://lab501.ro/placi-video/gigabyt...-superlativ/12

At 900MHz the 480 should be ahead because of its 384bit memory and extra Vram but not by much, under 10% imo.

PS: Also, GTX 470 @ 980MHZ

http://lab501.ro/placi-video/gigabyt...-superlativ/11

That's a 60% overclock from stock OMG***BBQ

You sure your cards aren't throttling?

My 470s were able to pull 80 fps @ 900 core with load temps around 45C.

i am not 100% sure, but i think it's the power limiter kicking in. If i disabled it i'd probably see a pretty sizable increase in fps, but it might also go
