Distilled Water good or not for liquid cooling? - Page 2

Distilled water and a one to two ounces of Hydro X = WIN

Not sure why you are worried, leak test it with power off, using an out side source to power your pump for 24 hours, no leaks fire it up and have fun, if somethinfg would burst down the road so be it. If it takes out something replace it and move on with your life.

If there was no risk it would be no fun ....

Distilled water is still your best bet. You could always go with Feser ukltra pure...

Distilled is pretty much everyone's choice for H20 cooling. However, there are other options... http://icedragon.mybigcommerce.com/products/Ice-Dragon-Cooling-Fluid-%2832oz%29.html and Mayhems Ultra Pure H20.

That's nice. i was thinking of this idea mixing Distilled water with Hydro X.

another question,

Are all distilled water bottles have same Pure water properties??

Many people use PT-Nuke, but it is not friendly to some acrylic parts. You can also use silver kill coils.

Yes well, if your that concerned about water leaking on your parts, I'd recommend you just stick to air cooling for now until you are ready to take the jump.

It doesnt matter what you add to distilled water, and it doesnt matter what coolant you use distilled, premix with distilled, glycol and inhibitors, or auto fluid, etc., they all become conductive over time exposed to metal ions in the rad/waterblock. And even if spilled nonconductive on motherboard still risk dissolving debris on mobo and if your lucky you wont fry anything, if unlucky you will.

I have accidentally spilled grocery store distilled + biocide on mobo 1x and gpu 1x, both ended up fine, both from rushing while refilling loop, got lucky both times. But key is catching it quickly, as has been demonstrated by some dunking running mobos in nonconductive water. Often they survive for a few mins, sometimes they fry immediately. But long enough exposure and the water will eventually dissolve something and become conductive.

Then one time the seal on gpu gave out and apparently had a slow leak, it completely fried gpu, came back to electronic smell and computer shutdown, that was with 20% antifreeze and 80% lab grade distilled water. But only killed gpu, and it was covered under rma, since it came with factory installed waterblock.

Oh my god , so in water cooling nothing is SAFE , all on your own risk.

Thanks guys for the good info and experience u gave to me.

and in air cooling your heat sink could fall off and break or short something out...I've seen it happen more times then I've seen water cooling leaks killed PCs; albeit with the stupid stock intel coolers that are held on with little plastic pins.

Nothing is safe...it just depends on how well you install it and how you treat it afterwards.
