Not a bad deal at that price, but I think its based of Core (Conroe) not Core2.

So slightly faster than a Pentium M processor in desktop package, I see. The slightly older Pentium M still makes for a great processor though (I have one with an M 735 and my dad's has an M 740) in terms of basic capability (i.e. web browsing, can accelerate 720p with plenty of headroom) and much better than a P4, probably same here.

This isn't that huge of an upgrade as people will think since its still one core.It will run alot cooler than a PresHot 90nm Pentium 4 and give similiar performance for alot less watts. However a Presler Pentium D can beat it pretty easily so its one of those "hmm" type upgrades since both can be had for around the same price. That said, I can still see this being a good side grade if ur on an old Dell with a Pentium 4 and onboard and wanting to convert it to a HTPC with a 5450 and the Celeron 450 and have a cooler running computer.

In 2009 I would say this was a great deal, but in mid 2011 u can basically get something from the AMD side that is significantly faster for like 15 more bucks and also comes with a cooler, aka Sempron 140, that can also unlock to a dual core 65 percent of the time.If unlocked to a dual, u have Core 2 Duo e7200 performance.

if u look around the right places, for $15 u can get the Celeron Dual Core 1200 which is a ton faster than the 450 and works on those older chipsets that support Pentium 4's/early Core 2's.

I think you are getting the family, code name, and architecture confused with each other:

Celeron 450 (65nm)
Family: Celeron
Code Name: Conroe-L
Architecture: Core

Core 2 Duo E6XX0 (65nm)
Family: Core 2 (Duo)
Code Name: Conroe
Architecture: Core

Core 2 is often used to refer to the Core 2 Duo or Core 2 Quad CPU family but it is not an architecture. There is a Core architecture which is what the Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad CPU families use. Conroe is the code name for the 65nm Core 2 Duo E6XX0 CPUs. The Celeron 450 is essentially a severally crippled 65nm Core 2 Duo that has one core and a lot of cache disabled (both laser etched I believe).
