AMD 965 BE 57c stock temp??

Thread Starter
Hello guys,
I've been wanting to overclock my 965 but for some reason my temp seems way too high. On loaded, my core temp was at 57c and idling at 42c. I tried everything from new thermal paste to a new cpu cooler. My current setup right now is AMD 965 BE (C3) with Asus M4A88TD mobo. Everything is at stock and ambient temp is about 75c. I don't think I have an air flow problem because I stick a small fan blowing into my comp. With or without the fan, temps remain the same.
This is the cpu cooler I just bought . There is no way that I'm getting temps higher than people running on stock fans. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated !
I've also included a picture of what my PC currently looks like.

For starters you have the fan on wrong. It should be on the other site of the heatsink, and it should be pushing air through the heatsink, which then will be exhausted by your case fan. Not sure how much that is going to improve the situation because the Rocketfish cooler you bought really isn't that good. It's a shame you didn't come here before you wasted your money on it. You could've bought a Hyper 212+ for the same price and had better temps

But how does that explain the external fan blowing into the heat sink? The small fan blows pretty strong and I think it should at least eliminate the air pushing through the heatsink problem. As for as the heatsink, I just bought it so I can still return it . But I don't see how stock fans could do better than this one.

That and I'm pretty sure I applied the thermal compound correctly. I used a pea size amount in the middle and clamped on the heat sink pretty tightly

That way too warm, check all of your settings and an airflow diagram of your case might help too. If nothing else then you just got a bum chip and RMA it.
