Will rubber gloves prevent against static shock?

I am aware that static electricity can kill computer components, especially motherboards, if too much builds up in your body and you make contact with the circuit. Seeing as this is my first build, I don't think I trust myself enough to do the frequent discharges by touching the case, as I've seen more experienced people demonstrate in videos, reviews, etc.

The point is that I don't feel the need to buy an anti-static wrist strap if rubber gloves will do the exact same task and also keep my components fingerprint and oil free. Does it work? thinking.gif

I've built 3 computers.

Each and every single one of them has been on carpet. The only thing I touch is the anti static bags. I don't ground my PSU, and touch or do anything like that.

I think the whole static discharge is a little hyped up. Yes I know it can happen, but never has to me. I also take apart said computers alot on carpet.

Pretty much this. I've never had a problem myself with putting my tower on the carpet, laying down too. Of course, when I take parts out I elevate them on the boxes.

I have an anti tactic wristband but i never use it. I usually work on my computer in my room and on carpet. If you are concerned you could work on your computer in the kitchen or something to avoid carpet though. Personally I do not think gloves are necessary.

Alright, thanks for that... I feel kinda relieved, although I'm probably just gonna wear gloves anyway. Old mantras die hard; "better safe than sorry" is pretty much the way I feel about this whole thing. If I'm shelling out $2500 for this whole thing when its all said and done, I don't want one stupid mistake setting me back a couple hundred bucks.

This is something people who are new at it always worry about. After you have built over a 10 of them, you realize zapping your hardware and wrecking it with a static discharge,is about as likely as being struck by lightning.

I know how you feel.

At the end of the day it's all about what your comfortable with. If it makes you feel safer with your investment I say do it up.

i always play it safe and always wear anti-static wrist strap. it doesn't bother me and at least i wont get that "oh shi-" moment if it does happen.

components nowadays aren't as sensitive as they were back then so static isn't much of a problem. i say use wrist straps if you can, but gloves are overkill. it might even hinder you from working properly.
