ASUS GTX 470 Overclock

Hello ^^ I'm new here.

I just started to upgrade my pc into 400 series cards & I went with a ASUS GTX 470 with plans of SLi & TRI like my 9800's & 260's. I plug in my new 470 to see normal temps. I proceed to overclock slowly & get all kinds of temps I didnt like. Eventually I get to this setting 950v 750/1500 clock/shader 1800 memory w/ 70% fan & run my game.

With MSI Afterburner I'm seeing 99% GPU load & end up seeing a temp of 57c. I couldnt believe it & expressed concern in my LS thinking this was too good to be true since every GPU Ive had from x1 9800, x2 9800, x3 9800, x1 260, x2 260 & x3 260 in this pc ran on air at around 70-80c while playing games.

I live in AZ & don't run the ac during the summer, so the ambient temp in my room is almost always 80-85 right now. I left the game on all day checking it every 15-20min & no temp change solid 57c with 99% load. I checked the card with my hand aswell every time & it was barely warm lol felt like any GPU would on idle. Game ran without flaw artifact or stutter all afternoon and evening. I go to turn it on today & I see 78-84c & only 40-50% GPU load with some lovely artifacts & stuttering.

What's going on? Nothing at all changed since I turned my pc off before bed & on this afternoon. Only step I've taken so far is I un-installed my drivers 275.33 then cleaned & re-installed to find no change.

Sometimes when you overclock the oc settings dont stick and the gpu ends up running on stock clocks even though it appears to be overclocked. This has happend to me a few times. I would be thinking oh look at my cool temps with the overclock and come to find out it wasnt overclocked at all. Could be your problem.

I think you might have to bump that voltage a bit. 950 is good for 700MHz but if you wanna reach 750-800MHz you need at least 1.000V.

My Asus GTX 470 won't even make 700 stable clock while gaming at 1.0 voltage. I guess you have to bump up the voltage a bit.

No I don't ^^ the card works fine @ stock. I have to turn down my settings and no AA now without an overclock. I can't seem to duplicate the gpu load of 99% anymore & every attempt to overclock ends up sending the card up to 90c give or take bouncing around 40-60% load at random. The day I had it on the settings I posted I had a couple settings on high with 4xAA & it ran perfectly all day long at a constant 99% load as I played.

Thank you for the replies ^^ I'm still attempting to overclock & find a good spot.

I dont know what 2d clock is all my ocing success comes from reading forums like these followed by tons of hrs of trial and error lol I really don't know much.

I don't see anywhere in afterburner about 2d clocks. The only changes to the card I made after install/drivers was unlocking the voltage & then slowly adjusting the Voltage, Core Clock, Memory Clock & Fan on the little bar graph display.
