Is this the best card for this system for its price range?

Thread Starter
So I'm going to be building a new computer, here's the specs.

ASRock p67 extreme4
Intel i5 2500k
Unsure about ram at the moment
HD 6950
550w psu
2 hard drives
1 dvd drive

Now what I was wondering is if the graphics card is the best choice for this system, or is there a better card for around the same price as the HD 6950, I will be using it for gaming and general use. Also if there's any special deals on cards they probably wont be available for me as I'm in the UK.

Get a reference HD6950 if you can find it, and unlock the shaders on it. Youll have a 6970 for $90 less.

6950 can be unlocked to a 6970 so it's good for this system.

Well, since the gpu probably will not be limited by the 2500k, your choice of graphics card would depend entirely upon how much you are willing to spend (btw you did not give a budget) and how good you want your graphics to be.

HD 6950 is a really nice card, if you care about the memory size of the GPU, reference one 6950 will be the best because of the materials used are all nice and it has 2GB memory. But you can get a better cooler and better performance if going for GIGABYTE's 6950OC, but it only has a 1GB Memory, it's the only disadvantage of this one.

what about the MSI TFII/III 6950? Better cooling plus 2gb so can be unlocked.

Pretty sure those aren't reference cards.

These are actually unlockable but the problem is that almost all new cards these days are made so they can't be unlocked.
