BFG Psu reliability?

Thread Starter
Has anyone ever had problems with a BGF Psu? I will be buying a 450w BFG for the time being till I upgrade my mobo setup. Newegg calculated the setup at 302watts. Would BFG be a good choice till then? I would plan on buying a higher wattage Antec or Corsair after I fully upgrade. Right now I only have the money for a HD 5670 at $54 used and a BGF 450w at $20 all before S/H. Upgrading from my 280w and HD 5570. I will buy these from Geeks.com. The only place I found some good used GPU deals. The PSU is new. I would never buy one used. But is it a decent choice?

Thanks

I've never owned BFG PSU, but wanted you to be aware that the company is no longer in existence, so support will be nill.

I know they are gone now. But they made all sorts of components and had good GPU lines from what I heard. So I might give it a try.

I wouldn't trust it. They didn't make good PSU's to begin with. And if it fries, you're completely out of luck due to BFG no longer existing.

Corsair CX430 - $45 shipped, $25 After rebate
Antec Earthwatts 380w Green - $40 shipped

I wouldn't go with ANYTHING less than those.

Avoid the BFG GS series. They're crap.

Everything else from BFG was fairly solid though, although it's a bit dated now.

I think the more important issue is why you are "upgrading" from a 5570 to a 5670.

Review of 5570, comparing with 5670

Quickly skimming the benchmark numbers, it appears that depending on the game you are getting anywhere from a 10% to 45% gain. However, IMO it is still really low overall performance. The reason is that basically the two cards are the same, except the 5670 is clocked higher and has much faster RAM. Also, it only uses 18W more, so not like it needs a really powerful power supply.

How about just improving the cooling and overclocking your current card?
