TIM for 5850

Thread Starter
OK, i need to swap out my tim on my 5850. I have alot of AS5, some tim that Coolermaster sent me and some tim from a titan heatsink. I thought i heard that AS5 is not good to use on GPU's because its conductive and if you put to much on you can short it out. So let me know what is best and what i should use. Thanks.!!!

I've put AS5 on my GPUs in the past, with no adverse effects. Just be sure not to be all sloppy with your application, and keep the thermal pads / thermal tape on the memory IC's instead of putting paste on them.

If you really want to be on the safe side, AS Ceramique is totally non-conductive, and has been tested extensively by enthousiasts to provide great results. If you're feeling rich, IC Diamond is also non-conductive. I've used a free sample for pre-release testing, and it is by far the best thermal paste I've used. But, it's costly, the syringe is tiny, and since GPU heatsinks sometimes need much more paste than a CPU, I'd stick with ceramique.

I don't know about the two others you posted. Google it! There aught to be some specs out there somewhere.

I always thought that AS5 was thermally conductive until I bought some at Radioshack and it actually said non-conductive on the package.

I've always used AS5 or Noctua's TIM on my GPU's. It drops 2 or 3 degrees celcius compared to what they slop on sometimes.
