Overclocking CPU Voltage... make it simple

Thread Starter
I've been looking everywhere for a simplified answer to "what voltage setting do I change for overclocking my cpu?" I'm a nerd and I sometimes over due my answers but not everyone is looking for that so lets make it simple. I've always had a problem with CPU voltage so help me out and helpfully other people.

Here's a picture of my BIOS, once again I need a SIMPLE answer. What do I need to focus on when overclock my cpu?

P.S. I'm only really changing CPU Frequency(MHz) to overclock my RAM to

Change your CPU voltage control to manual and then change your CPU Vcore

Lol

Well you gave a very basic question which had a simple answer.... Right you have a black edition CPU which helps with overclocking.

Change your CPU clock ratio to 20 change your CPU Voltage control to manual and then set it to 1.45 and boot to see if it works, if it does then run prime95 for an hour or two...

This is a real messy overclock btw. You will need to overclock your Northbridge as well for the best results.

To sum it up:
-Disable core performance boost, also search bios for C1E and Cool'n'Quiet, disable them.
-Set CPU voltage control to manual or change directly there to 1.45v(use numpad + -)
-Set CPU clock ratio to 20 (that makes it 4ghz)

That's all for now. Try to boot into windows. If you can, run Prime95 on all cores with small ffts for a 15 min stress. If it gets past 15 min mark, let it run for 1 hour. Then repeat it with the first settings (big ffts, tests everything cpu, ram)
If you can't get into windows or prime95 gives an error, bump cpu voltage 1 step up. Repeat this until you're at least 1 hour prime95 stable.

CPU-NB overclock comes later. Get a stable cpu overclock first.

I'm updating the pictures. I would also like to over clock my RAM

CPU Voltage is v1.5000 and seems to be stable.
When I was running Prime95 p64v266 (run time 15+ mins), one core failed, is this goin to be a problem or is it normal

If you want to overclock your ram, you are going to have to up your FSB. This will require you to lower your multiplier. Disable boost and c&q as per above op's.

1. Start with 220 FSB
2. Multiplier 17
3. NB and HT x11. Below 220, x12.
4. CPU voltage 1.475. You only need 1.5 or more when you get the hang of this CPU (which is very difficult to stabilize at higher freq's anyway) and you can stabilize a 4.1 or more.
5. You have way too much ram for a good OC. 4-6GB max. Most 1333-1600 ram chips work great at 9-9-9-24-31-CR1. Seriously, One 4gb chip is all you need. Put the rest back in if you need to play a ram intensive game. Right now, all you need is a base from which you can tweak later. CPU-Z will tell you what your ram timings "should" be on the SPD tab.
6. Hope this helps. You seem to be trying to get "it all done" at the same time and that is just not going to happen.
7. Have a purpose and goal for your OC (competition, gaming, etc.). Then go for the goal.
8. Have fun!
