I didn't research it at all, but if memory serves, the largest SINGLE hard drive PARTITION that windows XP could support before service pack 1 (I think...perhaps it was 2) was 137GB. I believe the same was true for windows 98SE. The physical size limit of a single drive is probably going to be limited by the motherboard's support. You won't be able to have a partition larger than 128 (137) GB, but you can absolutely use a hard drive that is physically larger than that.

You can use any size hdd, but Windows shows them only 137GB max. If you want to use the whole drive, you have to make multiple partitions, all under 137GB in size.
