Bonus, my RMA'd MSI 6870 tested bad, and it came back as a MSI 6950 smile.gif Same TFII cooler so should still look the part next to the other 6870. Hoping no issues with crossfire this time, untested as yet.

I'm not entirely sure whether the 6950 will crossfire with a 6870. From my understanding they would both need to be either 6900 series or 6800 series cards in order to crossfirex. thinking.gif

Balls!

OK. Looks like I'll be selling a 6870 and hunting up another MSI 6950. If anyone has one for sale please let me know!

i think crossfire is a little different then SLI, i think you can have a slightly different gpu for one and the other. you could give it a go and see how it works out. worst case scenario is that the catalyst control center would squawk and not let it happen...best case scenario it works and you have amazing graphics performance

Good looking rig. Everything i read about Crossfire is that it is a pain. Why not spend the money on a 7950 or 7970?

I will certainly consider it. My concern there is that it may end up bottlenecked by the 955@4.06 .. thoughts?

I had faced a similar issue yesterday. I figured another way of looking at the CPU bottlenecking is that you are getting maximum use out of your machine. The flip side to this is using a card that does not use your phenom to it's full potential. Feel free to chime in if there are technical reasons why this is wrong, just a simplistic point of view of mine.

Glass half full, I decided to go with a 7950 and maybe upgrade my MB and CPU in a year or so. (I just got them recently.)
