Lack of power to CPU?

Thread Starter
I have a 450w power supply and I just got a new gts450 that requires alot more power than my old low profile 5570. When I was playing a game recently after installing it my CPU was at 100% load during the whole game and it's never done that before. Could it be that not enough power is getting to my CPU? I have alot of other **** connected to the power supply such as fans, fan controllers, lights, etc.

Thanks in advance!

No, if a CPU "did not get enough power" then it would immediately throw errors.

Your CPU just might now be bottlenecking the game since can't keep up with the new GPU.

Hey this is completely off topic but fridge can cool a CPU.
I mean it's more of a Freon mod but check out So it is technically possible to use fridge to cool CPU.

A modded fridge compressor is not a fridge.

I know that phase change technology can be used to cool a system (AC, phase change cooling, slush boxes).

Throw some benchmarks up....

Downclock your GPU to say 50% and the check if CPU is 100% loaded still. Then up the GPU clock and see where the CPU can't keep up anymore. This would confirm bottlenecking.

Also, did you turn up your graphics settings to place more load on the GPU?

i cant be sure thats a CPU bottleneck, i mean the i5 is perfectly capable with keeping up with a GTS 450, nor is it a lack of Power, im willing to bet that you dont have the new drivers installed and a lot of the physics rendering, or some other thing is being run through your CPU instead of ur GPU

fridge PC cooling involves taking a PC and putting it inside a fridge and drilling holes for the wires to come out, this is completely different and is such a good idea i may end up doing it =P

OCing will probably be limited.

It could be a CPU bottleneck if the graphics settings are still turned way down.

I personally had an i5 650 and never got a bottleneck with my 470. Overclock that thing to 4.0 and you will be just fine. What power supply is it anyways?
