From the bit of reading I did at Anandtech when they first posted the article, I don't think the FM-1 Socket is too much to be excited about if you are looking for high-end performance. It's a great budget PC solution though. I'd imagine it would be OK for 1080P gaming, but I'm sure you're going to sacrifice some visual quality settings for anything above that. My wife needs a new PC and I'm looking into this route, but I may end up buying a core i3-2105 since she doesn't game. http://www.anandtech.com/show/4476/amd-a83850-review/2
. Also, it takes some seriously multi-threaded apps before the APU beats the core i3-2105. http://www.anandtech.com/show/4476/amd-a83850-review/3
The black edition AMD APU could be cool if seriously overclocked, something you can't really do with a core i3. It's a shame that I need to upgrade her very soon though from her Dell Dimension 2.4 GHz 533 FSB Pentium 4 with 80 GB hard drive!
