New rig help please

Thread Starter
My current build is old so i want to sell it. But for the new build I need help dropping price to a reasonable rates.

Right now it's just air cooling because I herd that the corsair prebuilt water loops are just as effective as the d14, if you know a good water loop let me know.

This build is for massive gaming, i want to run a lot of the newer games on max settings, with video streaming and blue ray movies plan to hook it up to a 47in led tv for movies.

Some stuff is not necessary like the ssd, ill only get that if I have the money, the mouse i like but i still have a decent one that works so it's not needed either. The router though I could use a good one, I'll need to stream to a wifi tv and atleast 3 laptops with Internet and maybe streaming video also. If you know of a good one let me know, I just picked out the fastest wifi one with good range.

I can't link the items or do a screen shot of the list since my only Internet access for the summer is my phone but here is a link to my list hopefully it works. http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/Pu...umber=11241209

The reason for the high wattage psu is because I plan to overclock and crossfire later

Ok right now I think I have it the link is still the same, but now I need to know where to get the 6950's that can be unlocked, I read that gigabyte was the best for that, any one know where?

Why do you have two motherboards on that list?

Also, I may be wrong but I don't think you need a 1200W PSU, even w/ crossfire 6970s. According to Phaedrus you'll be good with 750W.

this, but if you plant to stick with just one 6970, a 500W will be plenty

for the router go with:
http://homestore.cisco.com/en-us/Rou...VVviewprod.htm
its the fastest thing out there atm.

as far as which motherboard...the Asus is muhc better

and 1200w is overkill yes, BUT it cant ever hurt to have more than enough but it can hurt to have not enough.
i have an 1100 watt and i plan on keeping it for a good while.

edit: if you want a real water cooling system, PM me and ill show you whats up.

1200w? waaay to much power, 800 + would be fine.

http://www.microcenter.com/single_pr...tml?sku=200154 if you havea microcenter near u, $280 for 2600k, and they also have x68 + SB combos if you see a mobo on their list youd want, youd save a good amount of $$. 6970, try n hunt down an unlockable 6950 and save ur self $100($200 if ur gion CFX). You could settle for CL9 ripjaws for $70 bucks. For $229 id grab a 120gb ssd and a spinpoint hdd or something. My 2 cents

Firstly, there's an extra motherboard in there. That EVGA motherboard should go. Second of all, I would probably go with a full tower case if you're going to spend $160 on a case for better airflow and more room. Might i suggest the antec 1200 found here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811129100
Thirdly, you could get faster ram for cheaper found here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231468
Lastly, I would spend $220 on a SSD rather than a velociraptor. You would need another drive for storage, but the speed would definitely be worth it in my opinion.

Also, as everyone has been saying, 1200 watts is EXTREME overkill! I would save some money and go with something that would still leave headroom for the future like this:

This build needs a good bit of revamping.

Mobo - Take out both of those, the EVGA (its a 1366 socket anyways, while your 2600k is 1155) and the Z68. Unless you are putting an SSD in this build, a P67 will do you fine. I'd get an ASRock Extreme4. BUT if you do plan on throwing an SSD into this build (which I would highly recommend if you have the cash, they ARE worth it), then a Z68 is what you wanna pick up. For this, I would get a GigaByte board or an ASRock, if they have Z68s. But brands are just personal preference in this portion of the parts.

GPU - Good, but I would extremely recommend getting 2 of these for XFire

CPU - Unless you actually plan on taking full advantage of the 2600K in rendering or animation design, I would recommend just going with a 2500K. You save yourself $100, and hyper-threading doesnt even help in games.

PSU - Mother of God, 1200W is WAY overkill. With XFire 6970s, you could easily use an 850W. If you plan on XFire'ing in the future, then get an 850W now (unless you plan on rewiring your whole PC later on). If you don't ever plan on XFire'ing, then get a 650W, so you'll have a ton of headroom for intense OC'ing. For brands, Corsair and Antec are the way to go.

HDD - For $220, you know what you could get in HDDs? You could get 3x Spinpoint F3 1TB's and put them in RAID0. You do NOT need 10k RPM HDDs, especially if you plan on getting an SSD sometime. RAID0 is just as good (not near as good as an SSD though)

RAM - $125 is pretty overpriced for 8GB of RAM these days. You do not need 7 CAS Lat either. Of course 7 is faster than 9, but you are talking about a pretty steep price increase for literally a couple nanoseconds of faster performance. You can get 8GB GSkill Sniper Series RAM that runs at 1.25v @ 1600 for only about $65.

Not gonna comment on the mouse or the compound cause I've never used them, but I know that Razer does have pretty great mouse products. For the router, you really dont need to spend $150 for a router. It's not going to speed up your connection, just allow for more scalability and security. A simple one would do the job just as well.

Optical Drive - Unless you know you are going to be reading AND burning blu-rays, save some cash and just get a reader.

Cooler - NH-D14 is, for a lack of words, phenomenal. Great choice. Bit of a hassle to install though, but it is worth it.

Case - $160 is way too much for a mid-tower. If you need full, go full. Don't get an overpriced mid. If you want mid, get a HAF 922. If you want full, get an HAF X or HAF 942.

OK I switched out every thing and removed the extra mobo, i though I removed the asus one but luckily I didn't since apparently it was better than the EVGA one. Is that a good mobo the asus deluxe?

Also the ram you linked has a faster clock speed but a really high cas latency compared to the other so i put the new one on and kept the old to compare. What's better for ram 2133 clock with 11 cas latency, or 1600 clock with 7 cas latency? Thanks for the help I am looking into the micro Center around me but not sure about it.

Going to read invisible stuff now and make more adjustments
