series 9 i5 or envy beats i7

envy 14 (maybe beats edition if i cave for the looks)
i7 2630qm
8gb ram (1333)
6630M (if i recall)
720gb 7200 rpm
80gb msata ssd

or

series 9
i5 2537m
4gb (1066)
128gb ssd
Intel HD3000 graphics (SB chip graphics)

they're going to cost me about the same. rarely game but may in the future (unlikely). i am leaning toward the 9 for sexiness, but is there a reason i should prefer the envy (or a different machine altogether?)

i require a minimum i5/i7 (quad core doesnt matter) Sandy bridge and prefer an SSD as storage option.

also, first post, hi!

Hi, thing to consider, the i5 2537m is the worst i5 possible. It's clocked at 1.4Ghz so it doesn't even come close to the i7 2630QM at 2GHz. Think of the series 9 as a slightly better macbook air in terms of performance while the envy 14 is actually a pretty decent laptop.

well if Lion is awesome and the timing on the MBA refresh is right (Before next semester begins in late august) I may become a mac user. Hadn't even considered that.

are there any similarly ultraportables (the x220 comes to mind) that offer similar specifications to the envy with a smaller (12.5 or 13.3) screen size? also 1600x900 would be almost an instant sell for me if it had similar specs to the envy 14.

thanks for your input

The Thinkpad x1 is a very nice laptop, 13.3" with some beastly specs. http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/c...58B93D594F699C here's a link to it. Unfortunately its screen is only 1366x768 but it is gorilla glass so it won't scratch.

the.FBI what are your thoughts on the new MBA refresh? the 13.3 in one has 1440x900 screen and they made a few changes to the hardware (like a backlit keyboard) that I really like. For 1300 it seems pretty decent.
