Platnium PSU's?

Thread Starter
When do you guys think the new platnium PSUs are going to be released. I want to go down to a 850w and was originally thinking about a HX850 because of the ripple regulation and all that, but then i saw platniums at Computex.

Better efficiency is always nice but I'm not sure how much better it will be over the current gold ones. If I may ask what will you be running on that HX850?

If it's for your current rig, you could easily pick up a Platinum 550w PSU. Did you want the 850w for future upgrades?

They have up to 95 percent efficiency, up from the 90 percent efficient golds, but as far as I know only 1 is available and it only does 600 watts or so
post #5 of 11
Not sure if Platinum will have that much efficiency over Gold, most Gold rated PSU's perform extremely well. If your getting a new PSu get the AX850W, the HX is the old platform from Corsair I think.

You could run that system on a bronze level 650w comfortably with headroom no need for 850w

The only 80PLUS Platinum unit on the market it the Superflower Golden King 550W (aka Kingwin Lazer Platinum 550W). Which is basically a Golden Green (Lazer Gold) 650W optimized for better efficiency.

80PLUS gold demands 87%, 90%, and 87% efficiency at 20%, 50%, and 100% load.
80PLUS platinum demands 90%, 92%, 89% efficiency at those same loads.

These statements are the reason so many people have AX1200 when all they need is a 750 watt... Well in your case all you need is a 650 watt for Xfire.

the HX850 has a lot better voltage regulation and vertually no regulation like Antec Signature 850. Efficiency is one thing i like but also voltage regulation is another.
