!! DisplayPort to HDMI adapter for 3rd monitor?

Thread Starter
I want three identical monitors, but the ones I'm considering don't have DisplayPort. I hear that you can only use 2 DVI'HDMI, and the 3rd has to be DisplayPort. Can I just use a DisplayPort to HDMI/DVI adapter, or will that still register as an HDMI/DVI output? I'll be using 2 XFX 5770's in CrossfireX...maybe a 6950 if I have to upgrade for my gaming purposes (though I don't think it makes a difference since my slave-card can't produce video in CrossfireX). Thanks!

Update: I got the answer I needed. Thank you. I will NOT use passive adapters.

Use two on their native DVI/HDMI, and get an active DP adapter for the third. This "emulates" a DP monitor to the card. It's the only way this will work, you can't use passive adapters.

See poster below me. I mistaked the non-usb-powered active adapters for a passive adapter when in fact they were just being powered by the displayport itself.

So either get an active displayport to DVI or a passive displayport to VGA adapter -- either will work and the later option is usually cheaper if you don't mind using VGA.

Edit: Though it looks like the active adapters are cheap now, they were about $100 2 years ago when displayport first came out.
YOU CANNOT USE PASSIVE ADAPTERS!

You must use active adapters, in either single link 30 dollar kind or dual link 100 dollar usb powered kind.
