Yep, I would recommend finding a replacement capacitor at Radio Shack then either re-soldering it yourself or find someone who knows how to confidently.

Like someone else previously mentioned, it might have just been a bad soldering job to begin with and consequently got knocked loose during shipping or while XFX had their hands on it. Hard to say, but it's a relatively inexpensive procedure, so it shouldn't hurt your pockets, and it might provide a permanent fix to this mess.

I say it still looks like bad soldering, plain and simple.
Since XFX made the card, that would suggest they're reponsible.

My feeling is if it were a bad soldering job, that's easily evident. It sounds more like it was knocked off and the solder is probably broken there.

You have to decide which way you're going to proceed. If you want to try and salvage it, then go to an electronics repair shop (10 bucks to solder) or diy it. If you're going after XFX legally, don't touch the card or you will destroy your case.

Take a close up pic of the cap, you need a macro shot.

I examined the pictures for a while. They don't look like the same card at all. o.O

Is it possible that they mixed your card up for someone else's?
Do the serial numbers match on both? I cannot see that part.

Look in the phone book for an electronics repair shop.
Where are you located roughly?
Radio Shack contracts out their work.
Why pay them to send it to someone?
Get rid of the middleman.

I bought two XFX geforce 6800s 6 years or so ago, one of them had artifacts, they pulled the same crap on me.

Bottom line, they are one of the worst if not the worst graphics c ard maker and I would never buy anything from them. They are kind of like ECS only worse

Also another bad company, I dont know if they still make cards is BFG

I do not have experience with XFX as I do not own any XFX card. But I find it hard to believe that they will so blatantly lie/deny a warranty. Before I will pass any judgement on XFX, I have to firmly believe that the OP did not do anything to fix his artifact issue - reapply tim, aftermarket cooler, bake it(waay out there). OP, do you claim you have not done ANY of that?

I would think it's the lightings; my photo was taken with the sunlight at UPS, XFX's photo was probably taken completely indoors. I did check the numbers just now. Thanks for the heads up.

Wow, I never knew XFX was so bad. I thought they were better than some of the others... I'm glad I bought Sapphire now.

I have not done any of the said or anything close to it. I bought it, installed it, and took it out when it failed. I quoted the statement in the beginning because it's true for my case and I thought it was phrased well (more descriptive than just "I didn't do anything to the card").

What's tim?

Will watch out for BFG as well... And XFX from now on!
