Dad's build/sever good to go?

Seems fine for my needs.

Ordered:
8gb G.skill ram for $45
520 watt Antec Neo psu for $35
Asus DVD drive for $20
HAF 912 for $55
Crucial M4 64gb for $100
i3 2100 for $120
Asus P8z68-V for $170

Total: $545...I love buying things on sale

I have 2 Samsung F4 2TB drives for storage atm, will be getting atleast 2 more.

This PC will be used as a server for movies and such and web surfing. I need the onboard graphics support atm, but i'm giving him my 5770 in a few months when new cards come out. He can then use all 3 of his monitors.

Any other suggestions or anything let me know, thanks!

Everything looks fine, you could get it cheaper with H61/H67 boards and swap the SSD for normal HDD, but I like what you have listed.

No reason to go for the more expensive Asus Z68 for what you are doing.

I pretty much built the same thing for my Uncle's Parents except it was before the Z68, so I used an Asus H67 and used Cooler Master Elite Case

What Jonowxeon said.
Switch to H67/H61. That way, you can utilize the IGP inside the i3 (which Intel claims can stream 1080p Blu-Ray movies). This will also give you gain, as you can then sell on that 5770.

On the topic of motherboards, I recommend a mini-ITX build for you.
Why?
  • Most of the LGA1155 mITX Boards I find are H67
  • They're quite inexpensive
  • They should have enough features for you
  • They're small. Really small. 17x17cm.

Cons...
  • They're likely to have less SATA ports
  • Cases can be expensive for them
  • Small cases can get rather hot (Like a laptop)

Well, there's my thoughts. Do with them what you will
