Steam Connection Problems

Ever since I first bought Team Fortress 2 i've loved it. But when I saw PC gameplay of it I almost stroked out. There where all kinds of maps, weapons, and hats. HATS!!! I immediately looked into this. I find out about Steam. Thousands of games to play. I fell in love with it. I downloaded Steam and bought TF2. That's where it got sad. Where I live there are these arrogant tall bastards called trees surrounding my house. Apparently, these things have the ability to trash my connection. Downloading TF2 was a problem, so I went to my sisters house where there are none of those demons. It took a few hours but I did it. I downloaded TF2 *Que angelic music*. I started it up and joined a game. It was so damn laggy. With my hopes crushed I gave up.1 year later im trying it again. At my place, where all those demons feed on my connection. If any body has any suggestions to make Steam download games faster or just plain boost my connection speed I would worship the ground you walk on....Satan I know your out there, you shall not have my soul.

Fill out your system spec so we can look at any possible hardware issues.

What connection speed are you on? Run a Speed Test if you're unsure.

Have you checked that the servers you connect to have decent ping?

I've filled out some of it, I haven't finished it yet. Just check it out if you get the chance. Hell, I dont even know if I did it right. Regarding TF2 and Steam, right now I cant even download the game properly.

Yeah, playing TF2 on that laptop is going to be rough. My laptop has a Nvidia 8200m graphics card and still lags on the lowest settings. Playing with an Intel 965... I'm afraid you're out of luck. You could try putting everything on the lowest settings, but I'd be surprised if you see more than 20fps.

As for downloading, try using an ethernet cable if you're downloading wirelessly, and make sure that in the Steam settings, you've selected the closest server. To do that, open up Steam, select the Steam menu in the top left and then choose Settings.
Go to the Downloads + Cloud tab and choose the download region closest to you.
