Have you looked to see if the CPU's IHS and the Mega's base is particularly concave or convex? Hold a straight edge flat against them and see if any light passes under.

You can try to pressure mod to make sure you have good contact, the later versions of Megahalems come with a tighter set of bolts.

I used the grain of rice method, im happy with these 1.25 volt temps but when i bring it up to 1.31 for 4.2 the temps are ridiculously high. I dont know what to do

Did you ever consider your i7 might simply not be able to do 4,2 GHz with good temps on air?

You should try switching the fan on Megahalems to pulling air through instead of pushing air through. I think you might see slightly lower temps that way.

Don't do it. The H60 won't better the Megahalems temps! Give what I suggested a shot.

If you touch the fins are they very hot? You may benefit from a second fan in Push/Pull to get the heat off the sink faster.

Some chips just run hot even at low voltages. You may drop some temp if you try decreasing your VTT/QPI and CPU PLL and see if you remain stable.

I honestly say try some different fan(s). And see what you get. I wished i had all my old 920 results but all i have is my 980 stuff now. I don't want to do a apple to orange compare, even though i am using 2 more cores in the mix deal. Check the mount bracket to make sure everything is snug.
