Where would I check for that, because I don't remember any settings like that in Afterburner.

Older or official version has no options, iirc.

Try the latest, then enable the "unofficial...."

http://downloads.guru3d.com/-MSI-Afterburner-2.2.0-Beta-9-download-2816.html

For crossfire to work correctly, you will need to do this, if you haven't done so.

1. Go to regedit (start > search programs and files > "regedit").
2. In drop down menu: find file > type "enableulps".
3. For ALL instances (keep pressing F3) change the "1" value to a "0".
4. Reboot PC.
5. Force constant voltage in Afterburner

I assume this has something to do with the scaling for Crossfire? Thanks for the help. I will definitely be checking this out when I get home.

Yes, it has to do with "low level hardware access"

Two choices when using Afterburner to overclock;

1. Disable "low level...." but you will have no voltage control.

2. Disable ULPS as mentioned above or it will interfere with second GPU/crossfire scaling.

@Ken1649 & Demented
I never had to do edit the .cfg file. I have latest BETA. May be its the custom MSI BIOS(R6950PEX). Cause on Silent mode which has stock 6950 bios has the Voltages locked.

Well, thanks again ken. That download seems to have done the trick for voltage control. I have done the other things you suggested with the registry. So what type of limits should I impose on myself? I've never gotten this full into GPU overclocking, but I know I have some possible beasts here, so it would be a shame not to play a little. In fact, messing a little with the voltage, I forgot what it was set at originally. Was it just 1100, or 1115? So what's safe and what's not?

Don't worry if you don't remember, just select "reset" in Afterburner then restart PC. Run an application in full screen then monitor the voltage in other display and see what is the 3D voltage reading. Then use that value to select the "force constant voltage" click apply for it to take effect.

Take it easy with the voltage, take a baby step with small increment and keep an eye of the full load temperatures. On stock air cooler don't go beyond 70~75C.

OK, after hitting reset, it's at 1100, which is 1.1v. So, when I increase by mV, it would be 1105, 1110, 1115 and so on and so forth, right? Also, these are the MSi Twin Frozr III's with pretty bad ass cooling. I hope cooling isn't an issue.

Just start with 1.15v, then find your max core clocks. Then set max voltage at 1.2v then find the max stable core clocks and see what's the highest stable clocks. After you find your max core then start with the memory. The sweet spot for memory is 1375MHz. But do not increase voltage or lower the core clock in order to achieve high memory clocks.

There's a user one page back, can refer to his but his voltage is a bit high.

I got to go out, if you have question shoot a PM with email that I can reply you from my mobile thumb.gif

Watch the full load temperatures.
