Unlock and OC that 6950 TF3/ Twin Frozr III- the definitive guide! - Page 29

So I unlocked my card this weekend, all went well once I got my pen drive to boot to DOS but now I seem to be having issues with stability?? I haven't messed with overclocking the card yet and I have ran 3Dmark11/Kombuster without troubles but when I get into a game my system locks up after around 30-45 minutes of play. I'm not playing anything to intense, TF2 and borderlands, so I'm wondering what the issues could be? Do I need to mess with anything after I unlock the card to make it more stable? I was watching the temps while playing and they stay under 50C so that doesn't appear to be an issue. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

They tend to read stock volts ... and have a problem reading custom software controlled volts (the one AB applies). That's really all I have to offer on this subject. If your current set-up is stable on upping the VCore , then I see no reason to complain.

Well, your extra shaders obviously seem to de-stabilise the card. UNFLASH or up the volts till you get some stability. At the end of the day.. if your clock on an unlocked card are less than -90% of your locked ( stock) OC clocks.. then just flash back as its not worth it .. If the card dies when unlocked.. you'll have a hard time explaining the custom BIOS when your card is under RMA ,, assuming that they check anyway..

So should I try to raise my voltage some and see if that solves the issue? Whats the best way to check for stability? since 3Dmark and Kombuster both are working fine?

Thanks again!

Sorry for dragging my feet on this one , been super AFK.

Yes, exactly , and if u cant get very far, go flash ur backup.

What about some 10-odd runs of 3Dmark and shader complexity-8 on OCCT for about an hour at the very least? The ONE game I've seen that hates bad OC's is, well, Crysis 1 ... tons of memory corruption with time . If u have a copy , give it a try , get through one level and look for texture corruption .. I think C2 is as finicky as well.

Hey guys i got my card 14th april 2011. I tried to flash the msi r6950pex biost but it won't unlock the shaders. I also tried to flash a 6970 bios but then my computer won't boot up. I got it fixed by setting the switch in the other position and then flashed the orignal bios back. Now I got both of the switch positions working again. Maybe I need to try the other switch position? Or does it work on both positions? I hope you guys still can follow me.

Or is my card laser cutted?

Well , you MUST gather from what's been going on in this thread, cant help you there... Besides that, if you don't fill out ur system specs, there's not much I can do to help you. GPU screenshots are helpful. If ur cards a newer revision ( can see so can't say ) there's not much you can do except for the unlock mod by W1zzard--- over at TPU forums. Try that and get back to me . All I know is related to the MSI TF3.. so anything else, I'm afraid ur on ur own.

Btw, I'm on an EDGE dial up so plz do try to compress images before uploading ... thanks !

Razor, I got my voltage slider to finally unlock after re-installing afterburner a few times, still messing with voltage and clock speed to try and get something stable. Question for you though, you say you can increase the Memory voltage and Aux voltage in your original post, I do this and then click apply but it doesn't save the changes? The core voltage changes fine but the other two do not. As long as my temps stay down is it safe to keep increasing my voltage? I only have it up to 1165 mV atm.

FYI, I am forcing constant voltage and have my Graphics processor type set to 1150 mV (not sure what this is)

Hey, thanks for trying to help me!

Well, here is my setup:

CPU: Intel core i7-2600k
Motherboard: MSI P67a-GD65 (B3)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance CL9 1600MHZ
GPU: MSI 6950 Twin Frozr III (driver version 12.1, maybe the driver is blocking it?)
HDD: Samsung SpinPoint F3 Desktop Class HD502HJ
SSD: OCZ Vertex 2
DVD Player: Samsung Super-WriteMaster SH-S223C
PSU: Be Quiet Straight Power 700W
Case: CoolerMaster CM690II Advanced.

I followed this guide http://www.techpowerup.com/articles/overclocking/vidcard/159 from w1zzard. If i do that my computer won't boot and i've to use the switch I said before. I hope you can help me out!

Thanks in advance!

I have this exact issue. Have not yet attempted unlocking, just trying to OC right now and my memory doesn't seem to OC at all on stock voltage.

FWIW I had no issues getting core voltage adjustment working here, just got card on Thursday, installed drivers + latest AB beta and it worked fine.

If anyone's resolved this I'd love to know how. Do we need to enable unnoficial OCing in AB to get memory/auxiliary voltage adjustment?

Great thread btw thanks to all who've shared info here.

edit: all voltage controls work after some more fiddling. I derped and didn't realize you could only go in 10mv steps on the memory and aux voltages.
