Crucial M4 64GB is running slow?

Thread Starter
Hey guys,

I just installed my Crucial M4 64 GB ssd and im getting slow read and write speeds. Ive done most of the tweaks and have the ssd plugged into sata 1. My mobo is a MSI 870A-G54 with AMD 955 BE. It has SATA III on it.

Attachment 220528

Im not sure what else to try to increase the speed.

I think thats only a little slower than the advertised speeds, try the benchmark again and make sure you have it set in AHCI.

hmm, all the advertised speeds i have seen have been 350 MB/s and up. Am I getting these speeds because of the type of board i have?

No its not the board. Did you set the SSD to AHCI when you installed windows? It makes a differnce.

EDIT: I just noticed that its running @ 2XX Read speads. I thought it was running @ 3XX+ read speeds. There is an issue somewhere.

Also are you using a 6GB sata cable?

I didnt do it during installation but after. I went into the registry and edited it and then went to the bios and the only thing i could see that mention AHCI was in the on chip ata then underneath the raid option. Am i correct on choosing that or should i leave that at IDE. When i choose AHCI under the raid option my read speed does go up about 30 MB/s

You want it set to AHCI. Here is a good guide on how to set up your SSD to get the most out of it.

i have looked everywhere for AHCI option. The only other thing i can think of is the on chip sata controller is set to enabled( its either enabled or disabled ). I think that might mean AHCI but im not sure.

Did you connect to the right port? Did you consider updating BIOS?

Ive tried various ports on the main board. I have AHCI enabled on the sata controller under the raid option. The only thing i havent done is update my bios. I'm not sure what that will do. This weekend, im going to update the bios and do a clean install of windows with my storage drive left out and AHCI enabled and see if that does anything. I dont understand if my board is Sata III then why am i getting these speeds on a ssd that is suppose to be reading at 420 MB/s.

Thanks for the help. I really appreciate it.
