Crucial M4 64GB is running slow? - Page 2

Well, according to the OP screenshot, you are in IDE, not AHCI.

By the way, when you finish reinstalling Windows, grab AMD RAID/SATA Drivers. You need the third "AHCI for Windows 7". But it will only work when you are under AHCI in BIOS.
I just skimmed your thread, so while its possible there's room for improvement, it also may be because you're using an AMD chipset... they almost always score lower than Intel's (which is what manufacturers use to achieve their advertised speeds).

yah i was in IDE mode when i posted that screen shot, but now i have it in AHCI after looking over the MSI forums, and it increased it about 20 MB/s. Thanks for link for the AHCI download XSCounter, didn't even know about that

MrLinky -- I understand with my AMD chipset it would be under the advertised speeds for the ssd, but to be 150 MB/s under. I didnt think it would be that much slower.

would overclocking the fsb accomplish an increase in speeds or is it just the chip that is the bottleneck?

it doesn't hurt to try... but i do suspect the cpu is the bottleneck (or entire chipset)

the problem might be that you installed windows when the ssd was in ide mode... even if you changed it manually in the registry and bios afterwards... it might not have taken .

What you can do is reinstall windows, make sure your sata controllers are all set to ahci then proceed to install.

I am pretty sure that you should be getting higher scores then what you got. even with an amd chipset

BTW flash to the lastest bios... having updated roms in the bios can make a hell of a difference

Make sure you are using the Microsoft AHCI driver and your SATA ports is set to AHCI in BIOS. This supports TRIM, which makes SSD perform optimally over time.

The AMD AHCI/RAID driver does not support TRIM.
