New to OCing GPUs

Thread Starter
So I have a gtx460 as shown in my sig the galaxy one, I have the latest drivers i THINK and I have afterburner. what clock and stuff should i set it to? idk what is safe or where to go or if il see any performance gain at all. help/guidance would be much appreciated. thanks

whats the danger zone for voltage on this card?

Increase the core clock by 4-5mghz increments, test stability in benchmarks/OCCT without touching the voltage. Once it's unstable try .05 increases in voltage.

Also refer to other threads for that particular card to get a good idea of a voltage you shouldn't pass.
It's entirely possible you might not be able to get any type of stable OC, I'm also not sure of what those VRM's can handle.

Yes, and crashes, as well as the "Display driver has stopped responding" error would mean it's highly unstable. You'll know you're getting close if none of that happens and you only see minor Artifacts etc..OCCT can also auto-detect errors, but, it's not infallible. This is why you use multiple programs to test stability, and also just generic use, meaning if you see no issues in benchmarks then launch a game and have fun for a while.

Its completely safe to incrementally raise clocks as high as you can on stock volts, once it crashes you just back it down a little. Crysis bench tool is a good real world stability test if you're OCing GPUs for gaming. Always watch temps, you don't want to see them go much higher than the 80s.

I'm relatively new to OCing as well and I was able to get my 460 to 900 core/2150 mem @ 1.087V. Every time I raised the clocks I just ran Kombustor (you can access right from afterburner) for 5 min to test stability/artifacts. At 900 I have 0 artifacts in kombustor/gaming but they appear in Heaven 2.1. Just take it slow and make the plunge, I gained 10-15fps!

There's a fine line of what would be safe for voltage, then there's a very obscure one, the problem is knowing what the obscure line is when increasing voltage as the fine line is well known.

It's mostly trial and error, and also history helps too, meaning, what people have obtained in the past, so you know not to go over a certain voltage for any reason.

If it's stable keep going, there will be a cut-off point though.

Edit - Your main goal is to get a stable OC with the lowest voltage possible.

what the general cut off point for the 460? iv seen many different voltages so im not sure what that line would be
