Trifire 6970's need crazy cooling solution... Have Ideas? - Page 5

No offense at all mate, but that is so loud! I had to turn down my headsetvolume to 40%.

As some others said, get some side fans and you should have better temps.

Many Regards

If you don't want to shell out for a full watercooling setup, you can maybe get one of these: http://www.coolitsystems.com/index.php/omni.html or similar product, and use it for the middle card only.

Noone seems to notice that I have 2 high cfm floor fans pushing ACed air into the side of my case at such a rate that all my other intake fans run at 700 rpm max because there is so much positive pressure.

Also the pci-e extender is the best Idea ive heard of yet.

Edit: Man, those things are like 60$....

Enjoy your Jet engine pc machine. Either go water cooling or you are going to go deaf in about a year or so. Besides why on earth would you get 3x 6970's? You do know they invented cards called dual gpu's for a reason!!!

Your other option is to sell 2 of your 6970's and get a 6990 so you can do tri fire with less heat than 3x 6970's together.

Edit: Whats up with you and the money problem? If you do not have money than return 1 of those cards and buy yourself some nice water cooling parts instead of cheeping out on cooling. I see you also cheeped out on the cpu. Also the asus crosshair V is a waste, its not like you are going to OC your parts to the limit.

If I were you I would sell 2 of those cards and get yourself an intel cpu and motherboard and than save some money and do not cheap out on parts.

He is waiting for Bulldozer, so he wanted the Crosshair V which costs as much as a mid range 1155 board. I need two 6970s to barely play metro on 1080p, and I'm going trifire later this year.

Okay, I understand that he will upgrade to Bulldozer but what about all the other stuff I said?

im considering eventually getting another 6950 and if i do, i'll be going water, its really the smartest way to go.

plus you can get single slot PCI replacement brackets, so coupled with the water blocks, effectivley turns your GPU into a single slot card.

6990s are hot, loud, and pricey. He has the MoBo space, he just needs ways to deal with it. Trifrie 6970s is needed to play alot of games, even on a single 1080p screen.

I built my other system(in my profile) a year ago(March 14th or so, whenever I signed up here)

It was getting dated, and I was preparing for the release of BD and Southern Islands. Then the amazingly awesome CVF came out, as well as the prices of RAM and several other key components dropping.

I am disabled, and collect about 630$ a month. When I met my wife, I had horrible credit due to banking errors as a teenager. I decided to work on her credit instead. So we get a 1000$ starter line at Kay's Jewelry, I let her get something modest, and we pay it off obscenely quick and usually triple the payments or more.

I continue this route until I have established pretty decent credit for her(Im working on top notch credit for a business loan) I buy things I want on credit, then have to spend the next X months paying it off, then I continue, greatly raising her credit rating.I never miss a payment, pay early, pay twice a month, and make triple payments.

This netted me quite a credit limit at Newegg, so I was in a dilemma. I decided to take 2 risks;
1:Bulldozer will be better than SB
2:Southern Islands will offer little performance increase over the 6XXX series.

Basing my purchases off these risks(if southern islands winds up being a powerhouse Im selling these cards, so no HUGE loss, but I will be forced to stick with BD(I wont buy intel anyway unless they continue their recent success over AMD for a few more years)

So as you can tell by my financial situation, half of my monthly check is tied up in debt, and the rest is to take care of us.This leaves little option of new parts until I am able to pay off a significant portion(1/3) of the debt I have already incurred.(I.E. by the time BD gets here) I will get BD, so that will tie up even more resources.

I have options available to me, but I am not made of money.

I use 3 2gb 6970's at 1080p for several reasons:

I use a bug in the old catalysts to force 24xAA in a Wide-Tent filter. This is effectively 96x Box AA, these are levels of AA that most people havent even heard of.

I fold, this is a major reason.

I participate in activities that use my all 3 of my gpu's at 100% for days at a time that "are not allowed to be discussed"

I have rambled and double spaced this post till it looks like a mess, so Ima stop here. Just felt the need to clear those things up so there would be less confusion in this thread.

Please continue the discussion with me, Im loving the interest and help I am getting.

wouldn't
3 6970's be faster then 1 6970 and a 6990 Due to clock speeds?
