MSI 6870 TFII vs. HAWK (TFIII)

Hello to all!

I have one question about these cards:
http://fi.msi.com/product/vga/R6870-Hawk.html
http://fi.msi.com/product/vga/R6870-Twin-Frozr-II.html

Which one of these coolers are more quite? According to MSI's homepage, the TFII is quiter than the hawk by almost 6 dB. Is this true? I have always thought that the hawk cooler is "better and quiter" than the TFII.

Thanks for your help!

The word is "quiet" => "more quiet".

If MSI says so, TFII is more quiet. The Hawk can still be better, the purpose of the cooler is to cool If Hawk keeps temps 20C lower than TFII for just 6Db more, it's still better. Unfortunately, I have no idea about the temps of both cards.

Yeah, that's what I also came to. So I will probably go with the HAWK, if I end up buying a 6870.

And thanks for the language lesson, but I think the point is that people understand what I mean rather than which letter comes where

Its 21C cooler than the reference design, not the TFII which is 19C cooler than reference. Anyways i would prefer slightly better cooling over slightly lower noise levels any day. Also the Hawk has the triple over voltage feature which allows for better OC and i am not sure if the TFII has it.

Purchased the MSI 6870 Hawk and fitted yesterday. Seriously impressed with this card.

I've not finished my overclocking/voltage checks yet but I can tell you that in my system, card at stock settings, mobo temp 27C, room temp 21C, the card is idle 36C with 40% fan speed. I cannot hear it at this speed.

After Gaming/Benchmarking the card hits 59C Max, Fan speed maxs at 50% (auto). I still cannot hear it. I need to set the fan speed to 55% before I can hear anything. I'll report back when I've finished tweaking.

Hope this helps.

Wow, that sounds very nice! Hopefully you will hit some serious clocks on it!
That Hawk card sure sounds like a winner card

Quick update.

MSI 6870 Hawk @ 980/1200 on stock volts 1.185v. (Stock freq are 930/1050)

Mobo Temp 27C
GPU Idle Temp 36C (Auto fan @ 40%)
GPU Load Temp 63C (Auto fan @ 53%)

Thats the max clocks on stock volts. Seeing as this cards built for much higher volts I'll see what I can get out of her.
