Board wont start

Thread Starter
Hi everyone, I'm having some serious trouble with my motherboard in my sig. Whenever the cpu 8 pin power connector is plugged in it will not power on for more then a second before shutting off.

I tried testing my cpu in my friends computer which worked fine, and I even tried using a different cpu in my motherboard which still wont work.

I should also mention that the cpu fan header does not work anymore, so maybe the motherboard thinks the cpu is overheating, but the motherboard also doesn't require a cpu fan plugged in to power on, so I find this kind of odd.

Any help is appreciated.

Sounds like a more serious issue than that. Is it still within warranty?

Tried a different PSU?

Sound like the board is fried, or a PSU problem, have you ruled out a PSU problem?

EDIT: I click on these like 20 mins in advance and just reply to all my tabs I open, sorry for redundancy.

PSU is fine, tried a different one. Not sure if the board is in warranty because it is 6 months old, and I bought it off tiger direct.

Sounds like the board is fried. Did you overclock on it? If so it is highly probably. Because you don't have VRM Heatsinks, unless you put some on... :/

It should still be under warranty, then. First port of call is Tiger Direct when you've found the paperwork; if they fail, then it's off to the manufacturer for warranty support.

I did overclock on the board, but it does have heatsinks on the vrm. Tigerdirect doesn't offer any support on it, so I guess I will have to take it to biostar.

Yea I'm going to +1 on it's a motherboard issue. I recently had this happen with my parents computer. There was a big lightning storm and we bought a new cheap PSU to see if that was the problem and it wouldn't boot up for more than a couple seconds. Pretty much tested all the other parts seperately and it came down to it being the motherboard for sure. So sounds like a similar issue with those symptoms.

I'd assume your board has at least a 1 year warranty so send it in for RMA or at least try.

Just sent a RMA request into biostar, hopefully it gets accepted, but it looks like I might have to pay a $45 shipping fee.

It might be beneficial to invest in a new board entirely.... Just saying.
