stick with 6950 1gb or go to 2gb

Thread Starter
I recently purchased a powercolor 6950 1gb from amazon for a really good deal, but I originally wanted to get a 2gb reference so I could unlock it, plus I heard I read that the 1 gb more of vram helps a lot with AA.

So my question is should I just stick with my 1gb or sell it to a friend and get a 2gb? does it really make that much of a difference?

By the way I play on 1920x1080 and I would like to max out most settings.

Thanks

If you want AA, some games will surpass 1Gb, and you could Crossfire another 2Gb in the future. I say go for the 2Gb model.

just buy a 6950 OC 1GB and unlock it for CF~wink.gif
post #4 of 12
Unfortunately you can't unlock 1Gb 6950's, only 2Gb reference models have that chance frown.gif I would have said stick with the one you have, but if you want maxed with full AA, 1Gb isn't enough, even at 1080p.

Not worth the upgrade, just wait for 28nm. Especially at 1920x1080, its not a low resolution but it certainly is not a high enough resolution to require more than 1GB of VRAM.

if u have money then just spend it for a physX card like 9800 gt or gts 250. A 6950 1 GB + PHYSX will be a perfect pair for gaming. And about 2GB memory, u dnt have to worry unless u want eyefinity ur 1GB card is fine at 1920X1080, the best is just wait for 28 nm series also for dx12 and upgrade, ur card is more than enough to survive that long, toodles!

I'd go with 2GB. Sure, *most* games don't go above 1GB in 1080p. However, there are games that do, and that number will only increase with time.
