high temps on 2500k..? - Page 2

do you all think that those temperatures under load are fine for that setup and scenario?
The delta means that if they got 19c idle, it was actually 19c above ambient, so if there ambient temps were 20c, the core idle temp was actually 39c.

And those temps are in line with what I would expect from that cooler with the CPU at those speeds, its fine

also , how is it everyone else has much higher voltages at 4.4Ghz..?? CPU-Z reports my core voltage to be 1.044 at 1.6Ghz and 1.056v at 4.4Ghz...but everyone else has 1.3 etc..
also, if you set manual voltage and idle is over volted does this damage the processor in anyway and waste energy also?

thanks for the help
By push/pull he meant add another fan on the back of your CPU to pull the air through that the front fan is pushing through. However due to the shape of the fins on your cooler, you can't add another fan.

That idle voltage is correct, however the load voltage is being misreported if its only saying 1.056v, thats not possible at those speeds.

Setting a manual voltage to 1.3 would be better as I bet your motherboard is overvolting the CPU more than it needs to which is creating uneccesary amounts of heat.

It won't damage the CPU in anyway and would actually work out better, so change to manual voltage @ 1.3v

im using a Gigabyte P67A-D3-B3 - is this board known to mis-report voltages? ive upgraded the BIOS

so you think at 4.4Ghz its actually giving it more than 1.3?
im only using it at 4Ghz at moment until we get some case fans just too be safe.. what voltage do you recomend for that?

thanks

No, it's most likely CPU-Z misreporting the vcore, get HWMonitor and see what that says.

Also extra case fans wont make much difference to the temperatures unless the airflow in your case is already horrible.

But yes, I believe your motherboard is giving more voltage than neccesary, so just try for me now by setting it back to 4.4ghz, and set the vcore to 1.3v. Try the temps then

what is the VID voltage in your BIOS reporting?

currently at 4Ghz at 100% load in Prime 92 HWMonitor reports 1.06 CPU VCORE
MIN 1.04 MAX 1.06 - I got same voltages under 4.4Ghz last-night

I have to nip out for 30 mins but will try 4.4Ghz @ 1.3v when I get back

someone on OCuk said my voltages were fantastic at that load & speed and that I possibly have a very good chip like his and could get up to 5Ghz possibly? I dunno how 1 chip can be different to the other?
all chips are different, although chips from the same batch tend to see similar capabilities. 1.06v@4.4ghz would be amazing if it was correct, although im afrid its literally impossible.

so how would find out for sure if it was correct or not?

ok which option do i change in BIOS to change voltage? there so many under CPU

DVID
QPI/Ftt
SYSTEM AGENT
PCH CORE <- is it this one?
CPU PLL
there should be a setting called 'cpu vcore', that would be the one to modify for the cpu voltage.
