800D Red/Black Watercooled

Thread Starter
This is a new work log of what I was going to do in this thread: 800D Stealth and Water.
I kind of changed my mind about almost everything related to the log, so I am starting a new log here. As this has been in the pipeline for a while, I've already done a lot of the work, I'm basically up to putting it all together now, when I get the time (and the 6-32 Screws for the RX480, those thing are as rare as hen's teeth here in Australia, as it is a US thread)

So, the inspiration! Well, I bought a Rampage III Extreme, an new CPU (Xeon W3540) and RAM (Mushkin Redlines [with Hypers]), and I really liked the look of the R3E, and decided to change my colour scheme to red and black to match it, rather than plain black. The intention of the red is not to be really bright, a little bit muted (sort-of). My inspiration for this colour was MDPC-X's "Colour X" cable sleeve, and the red on the motherboard.

I then decided that I was going to need much more serious cooling for possibilities of watercooling graphics cards in the future (not right at the moment, we shall get to that later though), but I really wanted to keep the system quiet, this was a main priority, so in these interests, the following mods and parts are being employed:

Corsair Obsidian 800D
480 Rad cut-out on the top of the case
240 Rad cut-out in the bottom of the case
XSPC RX480 Radiator
TFC X-changer 240 Radiator (1 of 2 from my last build, now folding rig, and using the other one)
Laing D5 Vario (also reused from last build)
EK Supreme HF Full Nickel CPU Waterblock
EK FC Rampage 3 Extreme waterblock, Nickel/Acetal (came with the mobo)
Enermax Magma Batwing 120mm Fans x6 (for on the rads)
Lamptron FC-T 6 channel 30W Touchscreen Fan Controller
Primochill Myriad D5 Reservoir
Primochill Black Tubing, 3/8" ID, 5/8" OD (actually the Tygon equivalent, will have to get the writing off somehow [sigh @ Performance PCs])
Indigo Xtreme TIM

The parts not related to the cooling are as follows (for the moment):
ASUS Rampage III Extreme
Intel Xeon W3540
Mushkin Redline DDR3 2000MHz, 8-8-7-24-1T (Hypers)
MSI GTX580 3GB Lightning Xtreme Edition (wanted 2 but I think I'll wait for the 600 series)
ASUS Xonar D2X Sound Card
OCZ Vertex 3 240GB (OS + Games)
WD Green 2TB (TV/Movies/Crap)
Corsair AX1200 PSU (Sleeved in Colour-X and Black from MDPC-X)

That must about cover it, excluding the tiny things.

This will be my second (sort-of) attempt at cable sleeving. I did a bit on my OCZ Z-1000, using sleeve from Jason (AusPC here on OCN) but then I found that is squealed under highish load (thought it was my graphics cards for a long time), so I put that into the folding rig to be and got an AX1200 instead!

I'll be sleeving pretty much everything that has a cable, eventually (I think I'm going to be a little short on small size black sleeve for the moment, so I'll have to make another order when I run out and see how much I have left to do). Also, I just today noticed that Corsair are releasing a SATA 3 Hot Swap Kit for the hotswaps and a USB 3 Front Panel, which is awesome! Except that I've already sleeved most of the front panel connectors and those little pins were the most annoying thing I have ever had to work with. Perhaps I won't get the upgraded front panel, as I won't really need the USB3 there, and the USB 3 just plugs into an existing USB 3 port somewhere else (as far as I can tell), but I will definitely be getting that SATA 3 Hot Swap Kit!

So, umm... I guess this is where I upload some pics and stuff! Hope you guys find yet another 800D mod interesting.

Some pics of the case, after being cut. I think I forgot to take any before it was cut, but if at some point I find some pics of it masked and marked I'll upload them. If you have any questions about it, feel free to ask! The cut edges were done with a combination of drill bits and holesaws in the corners and angle grinders, tin snips, and jigsaw on the straights. The cut edges were then filed, sandpapered, and blacked with Flat black using a Q-tip (cotton bud thingy).

Oh and I cleaned up the cut in the bottom and made that look a bit neater after that pic, I'll take a pic of that and replace the bad one with it tomorrow.

The awesome MDPC-X sleeve! That's 30m Colour-X and 30m Black in Small size, and 5m Colour-X in SATA size, with 5m Black in USB size.
Attachment 220599

The black R3400 tubing. This I ordered Primochill tubing, specifically so I didn't have any writing on it. Looks like I'll have to find something to take it off with... Anybody done this before and knows something that would work well and not damage the surface or tube?
Attachment 220596

Some screws, Dual Fan grill, and old 240 rad painted up. Quad rad grill for comparison of the original gloss black finish to my flat black that the Phobya Rad Grills were done in.

The Enermax fans, shown sleeved, with 1 unsleeved for comparison.
Attachment 220601Attachment 220602

The stock Corsair (Yate Loon?) 140mm fans also sleeved, again 1 unsleeved.
Attachment 220603Attachment 220604

All the fans sleeved, and looking awesome! I wish my photos looked better, but alas, even though my phone is 8MP and can take 720p video, its pictures SUCK!

Pics of most of the work done so far uploaded now. Hopefully my fan controller shows up tomorrow and I can try and put most of the stuff in the case, maybe even try and leak test the loop.

Cable sleeving-wise I've sleeved the 2 x 8pin CPU power cables, but nothing else on the power supply yet. Will upload some pics of them done tomorrow, too.

Thanks, I hope I can live up to the high standard of OCN case modding!

So, haven't updated in a while due to still waiting for 6-32 x 1 1/2" hex socket screws to screw in to the RX480 from the top of the case. Because they are an American thread, they're pretty much impossible to find here. Cost Less Bolts near me have ordered some in, but had to call 5 suppliers, and eventually, they are coming from Perth, which is pretty much the furthest part of Australia from Melbourne, where I am, around 2700km, or 1700 miles.

Mostly not much has happened since last update, but I'll try and remember to upload some pics of my progress when I get home from uni.

Home now, so here's a pic of the 240 rad installed. Pretty tight, and as you can see, I've relocated the stock fan from under the divider to on top of it, hopefully not clashing with the motherboard. The tubing should bend there alright, being the 1/8" wall tube, it has a really tight bend radius.
Attachment 221447

Some pics of the sleeving of the 2 8pin CPU cables. I'm pretty happy with how they turned out. As you see I've gone for a 2 red, 2 black pattern, that I'll also use on the PCI-E cables and the 24 pin mobo cable. I just think it makes the colours a bit more defined that 1 red, 1 black.
