Make sure to max it out before locking it, unless you can still change the settings ingame.
Have fun playing

I found another solution from here.

So go to C:\\Program Files\\Codemasters\\GRID\\system
and open the hardware_settings_restrictions.xml with your notepad.
At the bottom of the file somewhere says :
<data>
<res mem="270" maxWidth="1280" />

You can change the "maxWidth option into whatever resolution you want(I put "1920" because I work on a 24" monitor).That's it!Now I have available all the resolution until 1920x1200 inside the game options.Of course you can also use higher or lower resolutions.

Enjoy!"

Found this on widescreen gaming forums it works on the higher resolutions but i still cannot get 1440x900 anybody got any ideas im sick of playing with a square sceen on my widescreen moniter

Come on codies sort it out !

Thank you
It is weird how I don't have this problem even though I have the same graphics card as the OP. Mine is the Steam version so I don't know if the OP has all the patches up to date.

Steam is good because it automatically patches the game, but if you got retail you have to do it yourself

OP, if you don't have it patched you should probably consider doing so, because I don't remember which, but one of the patches fixes the lost savegame issues, because without patch GRID put's progress you made into RAM, and writes it to HDD when you quit the game, so if the game happens to crash it's bye bye to the progress you made that session. Patch fixes that because the game saves progress to HDD after every race I think.

Just thought I would let you know (it can be quite frustrating to loose progress)
