Do you guys think this is a good deal? - Page 2

That'll do for now then. To be honest a pc that old, performance does highly depend on how it's been treated. I've had my p4 from new and it's been treated well all it's life, cleaned well, maintained, had the occasional upgrade.

Could be pretty smooth, could be riddled with issues.

Well you could always get yourself a decent laptop. Its always nice to have a backup computer when your desktop goes out.

You shouldn't need to hold an account. Your basically buying money from them. Its 100% the same as a gift card, except its a credit card as well. The charges are usually very small, so small that its most likely cheaper to pay the fee online, than buy locally. But I don't know where you live or whats around.

You listed a few things you do with the comp, and this will work fine for that. But you state you might get into programming and such, and buy another computer or upgrade later. What will be your budget when buying new and how soon? Cause if your gonna build something half decent very soon, theres no point in buying anything fancy just yet, as you won't get your money back.

This isn't a horrible deal, and if you can beat him down a little, should be ok for very basic use like media, downloads and browsing.

I'll break my thoughts down:
Case: Not bad for a cheap P4 system. Much better than dell or HP cases right? +
CPU: Dual core 3.4Ghz. I see most P4's in this price range as a mid 2+ghz single core with HT. +
Case Fans: 3? Sure 3 is a number, no clue if they are good or not, better than none I guess... Again, P4 systems in this price are usually garbage cases with minimal airflow/fans. +
Ram: does the extra 2 mean theres 2 sticks? 1 is fine, normal for P4 in this $. 2 would be better
Mobo: Good enough for a P4 system.
Cabling: Custom cables? another plus over P4's in similar price range. +
PSU: No clue, can't be worse than a stock dell or HP though can it? Who knows...
GPU: it has a Dedicated GPU, which puts its well above most $100 range P4's. And a half decent one at that. +++

Around here thats a GREAT deal for a P4 system. For a P4 system. For a P4 system. I wanted to stress that. It's a higher end system for a P4 and the price is average.

If you are getting a dirt cheap system anyway, and will buy a P4 system, try to knock this guy down a bit, you likely won't get something that performs like this for ~$90 very often.

No HDD?!?!?! Well, if you have a spare laying around its still a decent deal, be sure to hit the guy on that when sending an offer, just play up the hassle of not having it pre-installed and having to do it yourself in such a cheap system.

Oh and the OS will make or break this deal. If you got one good, if not, the cost of adding the OS will make this questionable, unless you get XP for DIRT cheap or something...
With a small HDD you should easily be able to turn around and sell for same as buying, if not more if your lucky.

I'm tired, bed time. Hope this helps a little. Not sure where to suggest you go as I'd like more info on your situation to think of the best route to take...
