No it is not. Come to China and look around. Is there more people with REAL iPhone 4's or knockoffs? The internet would have told you that knockoffs would be more abundant. But there are more real iPhones than fakes. The closest thing to an iPhone is some Samsung phone on China telecom. Every single person in their mid 20's are apple fanboys. How do you know it's rampant? Have you actually been here? Or are you just regurgitating what some random site told you?

And Yes, this is very far fetched considering I have yet to see a single store that sells fakes in the 3 and a half years that I've been here.

Now go to Grandbuy/Jusco/Friendship (Department Stores) those stores are identical to this one. They sell perfectly legit Apple products. Just goes to show how ignorant Engadget is and how stereotyped OCN is.

EDIT: OK just read through the comments this thing is just plain insulting, so many ignorant idiots

EDIT 2: If I had the money I'd fly the whole Engadget staff over to China just to prove this thing is an AUTHORIZED APPLE RESELLER
It wasn't an authorized reseller. Check the article on MSN.

Mr. Pie's link states:
Quote:
We checked with Apple, which confirmed it does not have a self-standing retail outlet in Kunming, but it does have a reseller. However, that reseller is nowhere near the "fake" shop mentioned in the blog.

There are also 2 more "knock-off" stores within a 10 minute walk of that one.
Quote:
And the best part? A ten minute walk around the corner revealed not one, but TWO more rip-off Apple stores.

MSN article:
Quote:
As with many American companies, China is a highly lucrative market for Apple. The company’s chief financial officer was quoted earlier this year as saying, of all the Apple outlets in the world, the China stores clocks on average the highest traffic and highest revenue.

On Tuesday, the Cupertino-based company posted record quarterly earnings, with China sales leaping a record 250 percent since last year and comprising a third of all Apple sales.

As to whether this stoer is legit or fake, I doubt this matter will quietly disappear over the horizon, thus I expect some sort of in-depth investigation, whether by apple themselves, or simply by some more curious people.
EDIT: oh, it looks like apple has confirmed that store isn't authorized. Well, there you have it.

To Mr. Flying Donkey: even if you're convinced piracy ISN'T rampant in China... Well, don't just go around flaming everyone, since this opinion IS justified by numerous facts and articles. Furthermore, you only pointed out the apple products. Okay, fair enough, mayhaps those aren't pirated as much, I don't really know. However, applying that to every single product/service/whatever is a lost cause. They DO sell cheap knock-offs. As for an example...
Though this one falls into the "notsureifpiracy" category and isn't actually a product, it's at least the one making me laugh the most by far: China copies Austrian village
lachen.gif

Dismiss it or not, it's your call. I'm just saying you can't blame people for having such views on China.

Where there's smoke, there's [usually] fire wink.gif
