It has nothing to do with 'intellectual property rights' (whatever that means), it has everything to do with price.

I have posted this many times and I will post it again. You have to have fallen out of a tree if you think anyone is going to spend more than en entire months earnings on a stupid OS. Here in China Win 7 Home costs 1500, which is the average monthly wage. Are you telling me that some poor student, whose parents have saved up since he was born, so he could get an education are going to spend all that money on some OS?

You also have to be really blind if you think that that meaningless drivel called intellectual property is of any value. Which inventor in the history of mankind invented things or created whatever he or she did just to become a billionaire? The greatest gifts to humanity have been made by the selfless who have suffered the consequences of their endeavors.

Madamme Currie certainly wasn't intending to die a Bill Gates when she discovered radiation, nor did Einstein care to patent his theory of relativity. Galileo wasn't thinking of crates of gold when he got banished and died alone. What about the invention of the wheel or fire?

The collective ignorance of the so called West infuriates me, because it is exactly this mentality that has brought down our own world. And defending Apple? Who in their right mind defends blind, world destructive corporate greed?

How do you get away with something like this in a country like China when the economy is so state controlled?

An alternative is one thing but a replica with intent to completely imitate is different. This is especially true when the replica is sold as the original and the consumer loses out when it breaks and there isn't warranty (or parts) or pays a lot on pretense. Etc etc... i don't really care what the company loses when the company is as big and bad as apple/ms/etc. : )
Yeah, I'd agree that the consumer loses out on the Apple warranty if they make the mistake of buying a really good imitation but the vast majority of the handsets available only really copy the style - very few even have an Apple logo on them, a lot come with styluses or TV antennas, Symbian/Android etc.

I've yet to see a convincing imitation that made me think, "Wow, this one could actually be real..." and I don't think I'm particularly talented. The other thing to remember is that these things cost less than half the amount so even if you have to replace it (buy another) once to use it for as long as a real iPhone, you still spend less.

Apple has no control over the staff, branding, and experience at these stores. The main product that Apple sells is the brand so it can be hurt by these stores in the long run.
Once again...

Thread Starter
Some sources saying that the shop was a licensed reseller for half a year before it was found to have broken Apple's rules (ironically by over-pricing their products...) and since then, they were stripped of any official tie.

Then they would have to misspell Apple and not the word "store"... Apple is the patented name, not the word store.

Well, certain aspects of the economy are broadly state controlled, but in terms of what gets sold where, as long as it doesn't violate the unspoken rule of "Chinese companies and parts first - everybody else second" then the party leaders tend to turn a blind eye.

It's why they can get away with so much piracy and bootlegging of hardware and software. Since foreign companies generally can't even do business in China without some kind of joint venture arrangement, they have a much harder time of setting things up and selling the things they want to without the State noticing. A Chinese owned company, on the other hand, as long as it pays the appropriate bribes to local party leaders, can create as many fake Apple stores as it wants as long as it doesn't get too outrageous.

I know it's a kind of crappy explanation, but then again I never majored in international business.
